About us

Equipping Churches. Transforming Communities.
The Working Church is a ministry of WORK 4 A LIVING Inc., a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dba The Working Church.

Our vision is simple:
People discipled. People working. God's Church grown.
We believe the local church is God's primary instrument for transforming lives and communities. When churches intentionally build bridges into their communities, they become places where people encounter Christ, find meaningful work, strengthen their families, achieve financial stability and grow as disciples.

Our Story

WORK 4 A LIVING was founded in South Africa in 2007 to help people move from poverty and dependency toward lives of dignity, purpose and economic freedom.
Over time, we discovered that the greatest long-term impact came when local churches embraced this mission themselves. Churches that intentionally reached beyond their walls were seeing people find employment, start businesses, grow financially, become disciples of Jesus and become active members of the church.
This led to the development of The Working Church—a practical framework that equips churches to combat poverty while advancing the Great Commission.

Mission

Today, The Working Church trains and equips churches to develop and implement a Poverty Plan for their communities,  providing curriculum, training, mentoring and ongoing support to churches and independent W4AL Hubs around the world.
Churches build bridges into their communities through employment, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, family strengthening and discipleship initiatives that help people move from poverty to purpose.
Our goal is not simply to meet needs, but to equip churches to create lasting pathways that transform both lives and communities.

Isaiah 62:10
Go out through the gates!
Prepare the highway for my people to return!
Smooth out the road; pull out the boulders;
raise a flag for all the nations to see.

Local Churches. Lasting Transformation.
We believe poverty is not only an economic issue—it is a discipleship issue.
When churches, the people, are equipped to make disciples, help the unemployed find work, build businesses, steward finances wisely, strengthen families and grow in Christ, entire communities begin to flourish.
That is the vision of The Working Church:

People discipled. People working. God's Church grown.
